Ford Performance unveiled a new version of the Mustang to compete in the Cup Series starting next season, based on the Mustang ‘Dark Horse’, the seventh-generation Mustang.
The new version will make its on-track debut in the pre-season exhibition Clash Race at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on 4 February 2024.
“What a crazy year it has been with our new global Mustangs coming out for racing. The positive response from our fans around the world has been amazing, and we’re confident this Mustang ‘Dark Horse’ Cup car will be no different and that NASCAR fans will be excited to cheer us on next year,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director, Ford Performance Motorsports.
“Our Ford Performance staff, together with our NASCAR race teams, have worked tirelessly in the wind tunnel to develop this car, and I can’t wait to finally see it racing on the track next season.”

2024 Ford Mustang ‘Dark Horse’
Ford officially unveiled the Mustang ‘Dark Horse’ a year ago, the first new performance nameplate for the Mustang since 2001. It has inspired the current Mustang cars racing in the Australian Supercars and Formula Drift series.
Additional Mustang ‘Dark Horse’ racing variants will be eligible to compete in the GT3 and GT4 classes globally, and will compete in the Dark Horse R Mustang Challenge Series and several grassroots racing events.

2024 Ford Mustang ‘Dark Horse’
The Ford Mustang has been a fixture in NASCAR since arriving in the Xfinity Series full-time in 2011 and immediately racked up back-to-back championship wins. Overall, Mustang has won driver’s or owner’s championships in nine of the 12 seasons in that series and captured the manufacturer’s title in 2011 and 2013.
